Legend of Zelda Art & Artifacts Sneak Peek!

February 15, 2017 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

A lovely reader received a copy of Dark Horse’s latest The Legend of Zelda artbook early, and she sent me photos of her latest beauty. If you were on the fence about The Legend of Zelda Art & Artifacts book before, perhaps these images will change your mind. I completely forgot to preorder my copy until I saw these photos. This art book needs to be in my possession sooner than later, that’s for certain.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I’ve also been told that the paper quality is the same as the last art book, which was high quality stock. As soon as I receive my copy, I’ll do a little unboxing video that will exclude Breath of the Wild spoilers. I’ve been warned that there is some Breath of the Wild content, but it’s rather minimal. Obviously it’s going to be about Link saving Zelda from Ganon or a Ganon minion, but it could have a crazy twist like A Link Between Worlds did.

The art book is still available on Amazon.com, as well as digitally through Dark Horse. But really, do you buy an art book to look at it digitally? No. No you do not.

Breath of the Wild Strategy Guide Spotted on Amazon.de

February 9, 2017 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

Thanks to a lovely reader, I was alerted to the fact that Piggyback has their Breath of the Wild strategy guide available for preorder on Amazon’s German store, Amazon.de. The site has both a Collector’s Edition and a paperback version up for preorder. As of this morning, however, the CE was sold out completely.

The guide is not available for preorder yet in the States. You best believe I will be checking daily for this, because I don’t want to miss picking up at least one of these beauties. I really want the two hardcover editions because reasons.

I have reached out to Piggyback regarding when these books will be available to preorder on Amazon.com. I have  not heard anything back from the publisher.

The game releases is just under a month, if you can believe that. I’m personally irked that I didn’t watch Nintendo’s Direct presentation on Breath of the Wild and snag a Master Edition right afterward. That and the CE are completely sold out, and I know that means no more will be made. That’s kind of the point with Collector’s Editions. When you add in the fact that Nintendo LOVES to shortstock inventory on purpose, I probably never had a chance. I’m still looking for an NES Classic to pick up close to retail price. No way am I paying a three-figure eBay markup.

Horizon: Zero Dawn Strategy Guide Hailing From Future Press

February 8, 2017 By Keri Honea 9 Comments

Words cannot express how stoked I am that Future Press is producing the strategy guide for Horizon: Zero Dawn. I haven’t had a Future Press guide in my hands in a long time, and I cannot wait to see what they do with Guerrilla Games’ new IP. I know we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but I can’t help it with this strategy guide. Just look at how beautiful it is:

Horizon Zero Dawn strategy guide

Above all else, I know that Future Press’ guide will be of high quality when it comes to presentation. The paper will be high quality as well as the artwork within. The organization should be rather fantastically efficient as well. The question, of course, always comes back to the quality of the content, but I have faith in Future Press. It may be misplaced faith, but they’ve never steered me wrong yet. I know Chris can vouch for them as well.

Who will be preordering this beauty? It’s already up on Amazon!

Gaming Diary: One of the Worst Games I’ve Ever Played

February 6, 2017 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

Divide Game

Last week I had the “pleasure” of playing literally one of the worst games I have ever played. This wasn’t the worst because I sucked at it (which was a bit true), it’s the worst because it is. Bad controls, half-baked ideas, poor voice acting, meh story…it had all the makings of something awful.

I played this for a review for PlayStation Lifestyle. When I was first presented to Divide, it was simply called a sci-fi adventure. Well, I like sci-fi. I liked adventure games. What could go wrong? The answer was everything. I had no idea that sci-fi adventure was a code name for terrible controls for a top-down shooter wannabe. Because that’s exactly what this game was. For starters, if you’re going to have a top-down shooter, it needs to be a dual-stick shooter. This game, instead, requires three buttons to shoot your weapon. First you aim with the right stick. Then you press and hold down L2 to ready the weapon. Then you press R2 to fire. You know how much fun it is to try to hold your aim steady when you can spin 360 degrees and hold down three buttons at once? It’s not fun. Not fun in the slightest.

Even worse, the weapon could only fire once in the beginning before it needed to recharge. The enemies don’t have that problem. They can shoot as much as they want, and they surprisingly have no problems aiming at you.

This is only the tip of the iceberg as to all the problems with this game. You’ll have to read the review to get the full monty. I was ten minutes in when I called uncle to my Reviews Director. But no, the show must go on, no matter how terrible it is. It was so terrible. I have so many regrets, namely agreeing to review it in the first place. I have never scored a game so low as I have Divide. I really do hate coming down on developers for a project that they have put in their blood, sweat, and tears. In this case, the game was so bad, I had to. I really don’t know what they envisioned when they planned this game, but they executed it poorly.

I have no reviews planned until the end of the month, so you know what that means. IT’S BACKLOG TIME, BABY!

Gears of War 4 Strategy Guide Review

February 2, 2017 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

I know this is QUITE the timely review, but here I am with a Gears of War 4 strategy guide review. I just finished the game last week, and I hope to get more on the ball with guides in 2017. Starting off with a 2016 strategy guide just seems the best way to do it. So here it is, Gears of War 4, in all of its chainsaw ripping glory. The game was a bit of a disappointment, but at least the strategy guide was not. I’ll take it.
