Halo: Reach Strategy Guide Review

October 29, 2010 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

Halo Reach Strategy Guide by BradyGamesby Pete Davison

A new Halo game is always a big deal, and the release of Halo: Reach was no exception. Acting as a prequel to the Master Chief’s games, Reach tells the story of Noble Team, a squad of Spartans on the titular planet battling to save their homeland from the incursion of the sinister Covenant. But Halo has always had two sides to it—the story-heavy single-player campaign and the chaos of online multiplayer. Reach offers more possibilities than ever before for a wide variety of fun, making it an enjoyable game for first-person shooter fans of any persuasion.

With all these possibilities, then, it’s clear that a strategy guide for Reach needs to be a fairly hefty document. And BradyGames certainly haven’t disappointed on that front; weighing in at 400 pages, the Halo: Reach Signature Series Guide offers a wealth of knowledge that every fan of Halo will find both useful and interesting. Super Scribblenauts Strategy Guide Review

October 26, 2010 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

Super Scribblenauts Strategy Guide by Prima GamesStrategy Guide Review Policy:

My goal for these strategy guide reviews is not to discuss whether one needs the guide to complete the game. Every gamer has different strengths and skills, and one may need every bit of a guide, another may need to look up information for quick assistance once, and another may laugh at the idea of ever using a guide, even the online freebies. My goal is to determine whether the guide is 1) helpful in the first place, 2) does it encompass gamers who need hand-holding as well as those who need a quick reference and 3) how much information does it really have.

Review:

While a strategy guide for a puzzle game like Super Scribblenauts may seem like cheating, the best way to think of it is a suggestion guide for when you’re feeling uncreative. Let’s face it; Super Scribblenauts demands creativity, at times even more so than the first game, because now there are adjectives to be used and often required. The guide follows this philosophy of offering creative pointers, and it does it very, very well with the inclusion of crazy solution suggestions, a giant word list, and an even larger list of adjectives. Weekly Poll: Which game has you the most excited this week? (Redux)

October 25, 2010 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

Despite all the Fallout New Vegas hype, it seems that most of my readers are more excited about Vanquish (or as I like to call it, Mech Bayonetta) than the post-apocalyptic game. I have to wonder if this is because of all the bugs that have been reported in the game or maybe Fallout isn’t as popular as advertised.

This week’s poll is a redux of last week, simply because October continues to flood the market with highly anticipated games. This month was supposed to be my catch-up month. Not sure what happened. It looks like December will have to become my catch-up month, because we all know how screwed our wallets will be come first quarter of next year.

Of this bunch, it’s a toss-up for me between Fable III and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II. I haven’t even started the first game yet, but I really want to find time to. I think I need to stop buying games and guides first.

Nah, that will never happen.

Fallout New Vegas: Collector’s Edition Strategy Guide Comparisons

October 22, 2010 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

Fallout New Vegas Collector's Edition Strategy Guide

Upon first glance, these two editions of the strategy guides for Fallout New Vegas don’t appear to be that much different aside from their covers. When you look at the specs from Amazon, they don’t seem that different either. Both are over 400 pages–which, by the way, is massive for a strategy guide–both have ginormous tear-out posters of the maps, but the Collector’s Edition sports what every Collector’s Edition should sport in addition to the classy and stylish hard cover: 32 bonus pages for Fallout fans. Why else call it a Collector’s Edition unless you’re going to make something just for collectors?

Amazon doesn’t go into great detail about what is within these 32 pages, but concept art and behind-the-scenes materials from the devs are part of the package. And honestly, there could easily be 32 pages of just that, and that’s all well worth the $10 extra.

Be sure to look for our review of the Fallout New Vegas guide in this next week!
