Monday Gaming Diary: Extra Life is This Weekend!

November 2, 2015 By Keri Honea 1 Comment

I know all of you are so tired of hearing Chris and I talk about Extra Life, but well, what can we say; we kind of don’t care. Extra Life is pretty important to both of us, and we love this time of year when gamers can unite for the common good. We also love setting aside a day to play backlog games!

Chris actually will not be participating on the real Extra Life day, November 7th because he will be shooting a wedding. Instead he will stream on a Friday in the coming weeks. We will announce more as it gets close. Ross will be streaming all day on the 7th on his Twitch Channel. It’s pretty much thanks to Ross and his awesome friends that Team SGR was able to surpass our goal of $1,000, so please support him and his stream. He has really funny commentary while he plays. I wish I had recorded some of it when I played next to him last year.

Jen and I still don’t know what we’re doing aside from tattoos. I think my ideas are too ambitious to play everything I want to, so it will come down to which massive open world game I will focus everything on. Since no one has donated to tell me what to play, I’m debating between the following massive games:

  • Dragon Age Inquisition (Hell, I played Origins last year so I might as well make it a tradition!)
  • Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn
  • Mad Max

I am definitely going to set aside some time in the middle of the night to wake up by finishing LEGO Dimensions.

Right now Jen’s plan is to start a new playthrough of Dragon Age Inquisition as a dwarf, so it is possible that between the two of us, it will be all Dragon Age all the time. It may make for boring streams, but hey, I’ve offered to let people tell me what to play and no one has bitten yet. 😀

Yes, that’s a hint.

I may wear my Cullen tank top that day with one of DA hoodies. I will be that person.

Unboxing Video: Halo 5: Guardians Collector’s Edition Strategy Guide

October 29, 2015 By Keri Honea 3 Comments

Halo 5: Guardians released this past Tuesday and so did the strategy guide! Like yesterday’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate strategy guide, there are two versions of the Halo 5 strategy guide—a standard paperback and a hardcover collector’s edition. So why spend the extra dough on the CE for this one, especially since it’s a multiplayer-heavy game? We comb through it and find out.

Our full review of the Halo 5: Guardians Collector’s Edition strategy guide should be coming in the next week. Look for how well this strategy guide implements everything during gameplay then!

Unboxing Video: Assassin’s Creed Syndicate Collector’s Edition Strategy Guide

October 28, 2015 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

As has been tradition, the strategy guide for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate has both a paperback edition and badass, hardcover collector’s edition. The big difference between the two lies in about $10-$15. So why pick the CE over the paperback for AC Syndicate?

From what I’ve played with it as shown below, it’s definitely worth the extra moolah.

Our full review of the Assassin’s Creed Syndicate Collector’s Edition strategy guide should be up very soon!

Monday Gaming Diary: October Rush is over, now for the guides…

October 26, 2015 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

12038570_1070222973008455_913871730625628777_oSomehow, I did it people; I survived the last ten days single-parenting and reviewing three massive game releases. So now I can sit back and relax a little, right? I’m not on the charts for reviewing a major release in November for awhile, so now I can play some games for fun, right?

Oh wait, I haven’t touched the video game STRATEGY GUIDES for said releases, have I? Well, that’s an fantastic excuse to get back into them, as I loved Assassin’s Creed Syndicate with every fiber of my being. I have lots of bullet points for the strategy guide that it better include, so yes I was thrilled to see the book show up at my doorstep so close to launch.

Halo 5: Guardians and its guide release tomorrow, and I have a list of items this strategy guide better include as well. I have high hopes for both of these!

A review copy of The Legend of Zelda: TriForce Heroes also showed up, but GameStop has shipped my game copy yet, sooooo yeah. I preordered the game with the newest new 3DS XL with the Zelda theme, so I’m waiting on GS to deign me worthy of shipping something I’ve already paid for. This is why I hate it when GS gets the exclusive stuff.

Today I plan to take it rather easy from gaming aside from a few unboxing videos, and then I’ll jump right back into the grind tonight. Honestly, I can’t wait to get back into ACS. I know it’s only been three days since I last played, but I already miss it greatly.

Monday Gaming Diary: More Extra Life Talk

October 19, 2015 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

I’m under a heavy embargo to prevent any discussion of what I’ve been playing, so I’m going to use this opportune time to talk MORE about Extra Life.

As Chris and I have said ad nauseum, we know that people have their hands out all over the place asking for money. My personal Facebook feed has at least 10 people with their own gofundme campaigns in addition to people advertising their home businesses and asking others to buy things from their kids. Hell, it wasn’t very long ago that I posted about buying popcorn from my eldest for Cub Scouts, and I know I’ll be doing it again for his Jumprope for Heart charity in the spring. I do try to donate what I can to my friends and family, but I know all too well how it can be financially straining.

In order to help sweeten the pot a little bit, I’m going to toss in a free PlayStation 4 copy of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. It’s not important how I have two; what is important is that donors in the US who donate $25 to my campaign will be in the running for a free copy of AC Syndicate. So now you have a choice of the game or a free strategy guide of your choice.

The PS4 copy is a day-one edition that comes with all preorder-only codes. I have not redeemed any of them.

I am forming a playlist now for my 24 hours of gameplay, but I’m still allowing for donors to tell me what to play from the list of games I have on the campaign page. All it takes is $5 to get me play Destiny. If no one tells me what to play, then it will most likely be Dragon Age Inquisition and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn all day and all night.

This will be the last plea for donations. Don’t forget that Chris has his own giveaways and such on his campaign, and we have two other team-members if you’d rather donate to Ross or Jen.

Thank you all for your kindness!
