Diablo III (for consoles) FreeGuideFriday Strategy Guide Giveaway!

August 29, 2013 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

Diablo III strategy guide for consolesYes, BradyGames already released a strategy guide for Diablo III last year for PCs, but they’ve retooled the strategy guide for the upcoming console edition of the game! And they’re letting me give one away for all of us who aren’t full-fledged PC gamers. (Yes, that includes me…I have other PC fanatics on staff to pick up my slack.)

If you’d like a copy of this strategy guide, it’s open up to both Twitter followers and Facebook page fans. You still have to be a US resident, though. If you happen to follow us on Twitter and Facebook, then you can enter on both places have two entries! Winner will be picked on Friday and will be notified via DM on Twitter or private message on Facebook.

Ready to read the rules before entering?

Twitter Contest Entries

  • Follow both @strategyreviews AND @Brady_Games on Twitter.
  • Tweet why you want to win the Diablo III strategy guide from @Brady_Games and @strategyreviews for #FreeGuideFriday. The hashtag and mentions of both SGR and BG must be in your tweet to be a valid entry. You must also mention the Diablo III strategy guide in some form, or how will I know what guide you want? And just to be clear, making fun of non-PC gamers will automatically invalidate your entry. Let’s keep things fun and civil, mmkay?

Facebook Contest Entries

  • On the SGR Facebook page post announcing this contest (hint: it has a link to this article), leave a comment saying why you want to win the Diablo III strategy guide. Once again, please do not make fun of us non-PC gamers in your comment.
  • In your comment, be sure to end the comment with the #FreeGuideFriday hashtag (for whatever reason FB has hashtags now).

One winner will be selected randomly from both pools of entries, so if you’re a fan/follower of both accounts, then definitely enter both realms! Winner will be chosen around noonish, so be on the lookout on both Twitter and Facebook!

I’m actually really looking forward to playing both the game and seeing this guide. Sure I haven’t even cracked my game case on SRIV thanks to current events, but uh, let’s not dwell on that right now. I have hope that I will get back into the gaming world very soon.

Saints Row IV FreeGuideFriday Strategy Guide Giveaway!

August 21, 2013 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

3D_Saints Row IV SSI admit it’s 100% my fault for the delay in getting a Saints Row IV strategy guide giveaway for FreeGuideFriday underway. I was a little preoccupied last week, and it hit me Sunday morning at the hospital that I never set up contest. Fortunately for all of you, BradyGames is still willing to (and has a copy to do so) give a copy away of the Saints Row IV strategy guide! From what I’ve read of the game reviews, this world seems to be almost as open and expansive as Skyrim, so a strategy guide will definitely be a lovely companion as you save the planet from alien invasion…as a leader of a gang… Maybe we shouldn’t play close attention to the details.

Now it’s time for me to put the batteries in my dubstep gun from my SRIV Collector’s Edition and go scare my dogs while the baby sleeps. Hee.

60% Off Coupon Code for Saints Row IV Strategy Guide from BradyGames

August 16, 2013 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

3D_Saints Row IV SSIf you’re planning on picking up BradyGames’ strategy guide for Saints Row IV, then let me encourage you to order directly from BradyGames’ store. How is that better than preordering from Amazon, GameStop, or Best Buy (or just waiting until next Tuesday and picking up the guide with your game)? Is a coupon code for 60% off enough of an incentive?

Starting on Sunday, August 18th, you can use coupon code SRIVBG60 when you check out from their online store for a whopping 60% discount. That’s a better value than any other game store can offer you for buying the strategy guide with the game (typical discount is 15%). Please note that this discount is for US residents only (Sorry, international fans!).

Purchasing the strategy guide also includes a free DLC code for the BG-40 Weapon with skins.

In other words, with this coupon code, you’re getting quite the bargain for a fantastic (at least I assume it will be) strategy guide for a zany game.

Kickstarter Campaign for Print Strategy Guides of Indie Games

August 13, 2013 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

Off Base KickstarterOff Base Productions, the strategy guide/web company who has written several strategy guides for BradyGames, has posted a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for publishing print strategy guides for indie games. One disadvantage indie games have with not being triple-A games is that the only way they will ever get a strategy guide is via online services, such as GameFAQs or even Prima Games‘ latest trend of offering free strategies online.

While most people prefer looking up tips and tricks online, Off Base has feelings about print strategy guides quite similar to my own:

A strategy guide is meant to be a companion for the reader, helping them to advance when they’re stuck, plan out the progression of their character, or point out interesting areas ripe for exploration. It’s your field guide for a multiverse of experiences. But in the world of YouTube and Wikipedia, the printed strategy guide has become no more than an upsell statistic for game store clerks at worst, or a throwaway object never to be looked at again when the game is over at best.

The staff behind this project wants to create a guide that works against this paradigm by creating a high-end, highly collectable object akin more to a well-crafted novel or a premium graphic novel – something that is a joy to hold, flip through, read, and proudly display on your shelf. We want to publish a piece that supports the experience of a game while reflecting its creative team’s efforts and talent.

Their first foray into self-publishing a print guide is for Mercenary Kings, an upcoming 2D action game on Steam that quite honestly, I haven’t heard of until now.

I would love to see this project succeed. In fact, I am going contribute to this campaign on behalf of SGR to show my ever undying support and love of print strategy guides. I may never buy this game, but I want to see Off Base succeed here so that more print guides for indie games can be made. I can’t imagine a better way to support further development of indie games than to see print strategy guides for them.
