The Corner of Randomness: Happy EVO 2015

July 17, 2015 By Chris Nitz Leave a Comment

evo-logo-176pxEVO 2015 is  upon us, which makes me both super stoked and terribly sad. I’m sad because I am traveling this weekend. Thus, I’ll have to catch replays of the matches next week. I’m stoked because this is the biggest weekend in fighting game tournaments. Hundreds of players gather to test their combos, timing, and luck in their favorite fighting game(s). It’s just stupid crazy to see the amount of skill these people have.

This year is also really odd. I mean odd enough that I fear demons are building snowmen and having snowball fights in Hell right now. I say this because Keri is actually watching fighting game streams right now. KERI IS WATCHING TWITCH AS I TYPE THIS! Yes, the end of days is upon us.

If you’re into fighting games at all, now is the time to tune in. You don’t necessarily need to know all the lingo to enjoy the madness about to grace your screen. You can check out the EVO schedule site to find out when various games will be streamed. It’s a damn good time! Now to end this babbling and go fire up Twitch!

The Corner of Randomness: Unboxing the Ant-Man Themed Marvel Collector Corps

July 3, 2015 By Chris Nitz Leave a Comment

Time sure does fly when you’re busy, as it seems like just a few days ago I was unboxing the Avengers themed Marvel Collector Corps box. However fast or slow time feels to have passed, another glorious Marvel Collector Corps arrived at my door. That means it’s time to crack open this box and see what kinds of awesomeness await. Let’s get to it!

The Corner of Randomness: E3 Impressions

June 18, 2015 By Chris Nitz Leave a Comment

The E3 press conferences are now nothing more than a fading memory. While Keri got to watch them in person, I had to deal with crappy Twitch streams. Still, a lot of greatness was dropped this year. I think it’s time to chat about it, but I refuse to babble on about all of it by myself. Thus, I got with Blake and Ross to tackle the crazy amount of news that dropped over two days. We got a lot of ground to cover, so let’s get started!

The Corner of Randomness: Back to the Wasteland

June 5, 2015 By Chris Nitz Leave a Comment

All the caps shall be mine!

All the caps shall be mine!

All the rumors of a new Fallout game turned out to be true! I’m pretty stoked for another entry into this franchise. This of course means that I am once again heading to the wasteland to collect bottle caps and run away from mutated insects. My game of choice for this romp through a post-apocalyptic world of sadness is Fallout: New Vegas.

I’ve owned Fallout: New Vegas for over year thanks to a Steam sale. I’m sure it was $5, and that is why I snagged it. I never installed it, however, due to all the bugs it suffered at launch. Bethesda does have a reputation for having some very interesting glitches when they release a new game, and this one was no different. Missing faces, NPCs with heads that just spun in circles, floating enemies, game crashes, and corrupted save files all made the list at launch.

Thankfully, I can report that these bugs all appear to be squashed. In the last few hours of play, nobody has gone all creepy with a spinning head or a face totally devoid of a wire frame. The game actually runs pretty smoothly now. I’m glad I gave this a try as I’m finding the story quite a bit better than what Fallout: 3 had to offer. I’m still pretty early in the game, so hopefully things will continue to go without a hitch.

Now to sit here in eager anticipation of what news will come out of E3!

The Corner of Randomness: New Tattoo Time

May 29, 2015 By Chris Nitz Leave a Comment

Keri is a pro photographer!

Keri is a pro photographer!

During the Extra Life event last year, Keri and I went to my local tattoo parlor and had some Zelda themed tattoos injected into our skin. We both got the Hylian crest, and I also added a second tattoo in the theme of the Master Sword and shield. It was a ton of fun, and we are now bonded by our tattoo experience.

Sadly, my body rejects ink. It’s a nice feature as cuts tend not to get infected, but it also sucks as I have to go in two, sometimes three, times in order for the tattoo to look complete. Well, yesterday was one such day. It’s finally warm enough that I can wear short sleeve shirts. Thus, I am now able to go in to get my Zelda tattoos touched up. However on a whim, when I was scheduling my appointment I figured I’m already there so why not just get another tattoo as well. CRAZINESS! Why is going through that pain so damn addicting?

This morning I woke up to find my arms hurt and some new ink staring back at me. I do wish Keri were here, as that was just a fun experience with some memories that still make me smile. I did get to talk all kinds of video game stuff with my tattoo artist as he is also a big gamer. It was a fun night. Now to wait for the dreaded itching as these things heal.
