Gaming Diary: No LEGO Ninjago Movie Video Game Platinum for Me

October 2, 2017 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

I came down with a bit of a head cold over the weekend, so I thought it would be a nice time to hang out in a comfy bean bag and earn that Platinum trophy in LEGO Ninjago Movie Video Game. Apparently that wasn’t meant to be. I am lacking one gold brick, and even with the collectible detector, I couldn’t figure out for the life of me what I was missing. Since there is no strategy guide, I turned to YouTube. Thanks to a kind YouTuber, I learned that I wasn’t missing anything; the game was missing it for me.

@TTGames this glitch is all that’s keeping me from the last gold brick & a plat for @ninjagomovie game. 🙁 Help? pic.twitter.com/l9YtSVuRGq

As such, unless TT Games patches in this fix, which I doubt will happen, there will be no Platinum trophy for me. Obviously, there is a way it will appear, so not everyone is afflicted with this glitch. I could start over and hope it will be fixed, but dear Lord; this game isn’t THAT good. So unless it gets patched, no Platinum trophy for this LEGO game, which is more aggravating than I care to admit.

To try to get over it, I started LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens on my Vita. Maybe that will motivate me to finish the other LEGO games on my consoles. It’s always nice to knock games off the backlog, which is seriously way too pathetic.

Still chapped over LEGO Ninjago Movie Video Game, though. That will sting for awhile.

Gaming Diary: LEGOs and Ninjagos

September 26, 2017 By Keri Honea 3 Comments

Friday night, we took the kids to see The LEGO Ninjago Movie. I knew it wouldn’t be as good as the previous movie or even the TV show (it’s pretty darn good, actually), but we enjoyed it all the same. This wasn’t set strictly off of the TV series’ lore; it was more of a reimagining of Ninjago’s defenders. This Green Ninja Lloyd was taken out of The LEGO Movie, where he was a Master Builder. As long as you went into the movie not expecting it to follow the show, it was enjoyable. Besides, how can you not love Jackie Chan voicing Sensei Wu?

LEGO Ninjago Movie Video Game

A review copy of the video game of the same name also arrived that day, and I opened it right after we returned from the movie. I am so glad I waited, because if I played this first, I may have put off going to the movie. I can’t get into too much now since my review still isn’t up, but just know that the voice actors in the game ARE NOT the same from the movie. The voice acting in the movie was done well. This was terrible.

I wasn’t a huge fan of The LEGO Movie Video Game, but that might be slightly better. Movie tie-ins rarely work, especially when they’re rushed to release upon movie release date. LEGO Jurassic World was fantastic until you reached the fourth film. It was there that the game-breaking glitches surfaced, the camera worsened, and the game crashed quite a bit. The LEGO Ninjago Movie Video Game suffers the same fate.

Am I still going to try to Platinum it? YOU BETCHA. It’s so rare I can snag a Platinum trophy in a game at all, so you best believe I’ll do it in the games I know I can.

Gaming Diary: A Bit of Everything Across the Board

September 18, 2017 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

One thing I really love about the Switch is that it’s a handheld console. It’s easy for me to pick it up and take it to the couch and play while my family watches TV. That way, if someone needs something, I can easily pause it and get up and help out. My consoles are all upstairs in my office, so if I go play on those in the evenings or on weekends, I feel like I’m abandoning everyone. Also, it’s not as easy for me to take care of little things like cleaning up a mess of spilled milk, fold laundry, or answer a child’s question. If I’m upstairs, that means people yell for my attention, and I’m not a fan of yelling up the stairs.

Splatoon 2

So in the evenings and on weekends, if there’s some gaming time, I’ll grab my Switch for Splatoon 2 action. After finally replacing my Vita charging cable (No idea where the other disappeared to. I know it’s not in Japan.), I’ve picked back up Tokyo Xanadu as well. I kind of want to finish that game, although it’s getting hard to want to when the story and gameplay grows stale. The Eclipse dungeons are becoming more and more puzzle platformers, and I’m not a fan of that style with my action-RPGs. It’s why I had to sadly abandon Ys: Oath in Felghana.

Speaking of Ys, I’m back on the Ys VIII train as well. I can only play that one during the day when I wrap up other work, and I think I’m 2/3 of the way finished with it. I have some areas I can’t explore yet due to missing adventure gear, but I’m hopeful I’ll come across it soon. I am nervous that I’m missing so much gear, however. I’m getting this distinct feeling that the story pursuit of the game is only 1/3 of what it really offers. I could have another 50 hours of exploration waiting for me, which, in reality, isn’t that bad of a thing. I like exploration almost to a fault.

The Corner of Randomness: Time To Get Busy

September 15, 2017 By Chris Nitz Leave a Comment

I’m not going to be around much for the next month or so. It’s not because I’m bored or need to step away from blabbering on about this or that every week. Nope. It’s because my calendar seems to have gotten out of control before I could stop the wildfire of tasks, trips, and visits. In fact, if it had not been for my mother-in-law taking their dog out at 5AM, I wouldn’t be up to write this before I had to get outside to finish some sidewalk work.

Between now and November I have my in-laws here for another week. Then I have a 4×4 event to take photos of. Right after that I head to Colorado to chase fall colors in the Rockies. I get home and almost immediately take off again to go see my brother in Michigan for a hunting trip. Then it’s off to Wisconsin to teach a photography class. I think after all that, I get a weekend home. How did I let this madness all happen?

On the bright side, all this travel means I’ll get some lovely time with my 3DS. In fact, I’m really looking forward to some of this travel as it means I’ll get some time to play the new Metroid: Samus Returns game that is now out for the 3DS. Also, I’d be so full of crap if I didn’t admit I REALLY want the Metroid-themed New Nintendo 3DS. Damn it Nintendo, why did you have to make that when I didn’t have the coin for it?

Anyway, I’m gonna wrap this up so I can finish my coffee, throw on some work clothes, and brace for another day of mosquito bites, sweat, and manual labor. But first, coffee. Lots of friggin coffee!

Gaming Diary: We’re Back for Extra-Life!

September 11, 2017 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

Our little core group from the EvilCast days has decided to get back together for one more reunion for the Extra Life marathon. One last hangout in Iowa before everyone officially parts ways from the state. Blake already moved out of the Buckeye State, but Chris won’t be there for much longer. This is our big hurrah together, and we can’t think of a better way to do so than to play video games for 24 hours and raise money for children’s hospitals.

Extra Life 2017

We have individual pages and a team page if you’d like to donate to us overall or individually. Or if you just want to cheer us on in our Twitch stream, link to be provided later, we’d love that too. We just want to play video games together and hopefully raise money for sick kids. Not sure exactly what I’m going to play, but I know it will be an RPG, that’s for sure. Jen might kill me if it’s not Dragon Age: Inquisition. My first Extra Life in Iowa was playing Dragon Age: Origins, so it might be fun to finish it with DAI.

This weekend, though, I finally played with my Switch! It’s so sad it took me this long to do it, but I played it most of the time when I wasn’t doing the motherly thing. I played Splatoon 2, which is a massive improvement over the first game. I should know, since I have to play the first game often as my youngest always wants to play it and well, he’s rather terrible at it. I have no problems letting him be terrible and recover from it, but he always asks for help and I can’t say no.

The strategy guide is a huge help when it comes to collectibles and boss prep. I’ll actually have a strategy guide review soon! Until then, I has more ocatarians to smother in ink.
