Print v. Online Strategy Guides – Vanquish

November 23, 2010 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

Vanquish IGN guideOnce I discovered that Future Press‘s Vanquish strategy guide had codes for movies to watch online, I’ve really been curious as to what IGN Guides would offer. Their guides are often great for assisting screenshots and videos, so I thought we would have a real battle here with Print v. Online. Instead, I found that IGN offered one aspect that is really more useful than the print guide and the rest of their guide is unfinished.

I understand that maybe Vanquish isn’t one of the top games on their priority list, especially since Fable III released soon afterward and Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood released last week. But to not have a completed guide for a game that takes eight hours to play a month after game release? That’s a little ridiculous. [Read more…]

Weekly Poll: Do you game over Thanksgiving?

November 22, 2010 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood PollSo wow, no love for Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood among most of you? You’re missing out. No really, you are, especially if you played Assassin’s Creed 2. ACB won’t appeal to those who did not, because, as one of my friends put it, ACB is really more AC2. It’s a continuation of the story, and there is no real tutorial on how to play except for on Ezio’s new tricks, which makes the combat ten times more manageable and fun than AC2.

As for the guide, I don’t want to jinx myself, but this could be the first guide written by Piggyback Interactive that doesn’t make me want to hurl it across the room in frustration. So far I have had zero issues and plenty of help, particularly when it comes to achieving 100% synchronization in those memories with the pesky timers. (Curious what 100% synchronization means? Well, I guess you’re going to have to play the game to find out!)

I’ve had a home alone weekend this past weekend, and I’ve used it to play quite a bit of ACB. I’m trying to do as much as I can now, because as of Wednesday, I won’t be able to play any of it for 4-5 days. We’re heading down to see my family for Thanksgiving this year, and my parents are not gamers in the slightest. They kind of think of games as pointless and a big waste of time. So, I won’t have a PS3 to borrow during naptime or late at night. I am going to try to get some gaming accomplished though in the form of handheld gaming. I’m going to back both my DS and PSP so I can play either Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light or Ys Seven, which I’m so close to finishing.

Are you going to be able to get your gaming fix at all over the Thanksgiving holiday? If so, what are you going to be able to play?

Unboxing the Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood Collector’s Edition Guide

November 17, 2010 By Keri Honea 8 Comments

I think everyone pretty much knew that I was going to declare the Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood Collector’s Edition Strategy Guide as the cover of the week, so this should be no surprise. However, I thought perhaps a nice unboxing photo gallery would be far more fun (or annoying) to show off Prima Games’ and Piggyback Interactive’s latest piece of beauty.

Weekly Poll: Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood

November 15, 2010 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

So we have more Movers than Kinecters in the audience. Is this because more of us have a PS3 than an Xbox? Or is it because of Yuki’s astute (and I believe accurate) observation that the Kinect is most likely going to appeal to the casual, family gamers and the Move will appeal more to the hardcore gamers. (I really hate differentiating between casual and hardcore with such labels, but at this point, I really have no idea how to better separate them.)

I sadly have not used my Move at all. I fired up Star Wars: The Force Unleashed this afternoon, and I really hoped that it would have Move support just because, well, just because. I guess it would have helped if I actually turned on my Move controller when I was playing, but the patch update I had to download immediately seemed to be only for Trophy support. (Yay for Trophies!) [Read more…]
