Strategy Guide Cover of the Week: Kingdom Hearts Throwbacks

October 16, 2013 By Keri Honea 304 Comments

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD ReMix released last month, but the new strategy guide for the game didn’t release until this week. I think it’s best we don’t ask why. I’m sure many thought they wouldn’t need the new strategy guide, especially if you’re like me and you already have guides for the games within. However, a bit has changed about each game, especially Chain of Memories (insert a “well, duh” here), making a new strategy guide a bit of a necessity. I have a lot of nostalgia for the original guides, as the strategy guide for Kingdom Hearts was the first strategy guide I bought after I re-entered the world of gaming with a PS2.

To celebrate the release of the new Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD ReMix strategy guide, let’s look at the original strategy guides for Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, the two playable games in the collection. Note how well used the original KH guide is below. I even ripped the sucker, which did sprout a couple of tears at the time and a Darth Vader-styled “NOOOOOOOO!”

Assassin’s Creed III Strategy Guide Cover Revealed

September 21, 2012 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

I can’t lie. I honestly don’t think I’ve seen a more beautiful cover for a strategy guide come across my email ALL YEAR. Piggyback Interactive has really done themselves proud with this artwork. Normally, the hardcovers are very subtle, with raised Assassin’s insignias on white. Those were always gorgeous, but it’s going to be hard to top this one.

I may be reviewing this strategy guide with gloves on so I don’t ruin it with fingerprints! Let’s hope that we can judge this book by its cover, and that the strategy content inside will be just as fantastic as the cover itself.

Strategy Guide Artwork of the Week

April 20, 2011 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

When I first opened the guide, this image took my breath away. You never once see Aya just like this in the game, but even if you did, it wouldn’t compare to how beautiful this piece of artwork is. Even if I absolutely hated the guide, I would keep it just for the artwork (this is only one small sample).

Killzone 3 Strategy GuideLook at this thing of beauty that Sony has teased us with on their PlayStation blog. If you’re looking forward to the Killzone 3 strategy guide, this visual should make you froth a little more. What makes it better is the fact that Sony has revealed some of the bonus features of the guide, all while touting the expertise of the guide writers, Future Press.

Future Press is covering every aspect of the game, from highly detailed overview maps of the single player campaign to minute details on obtaining each of the trophies and secrets. Killzone 3: The Official Guide is no less meticulous, with an extensive breakdowns of the single- and the multiplayer modes as well as useful tips and strategies for players of every skill level.

In addition, Killzone 3: The Official Guide contains lavish concept artworks depicting the development of the characters and environments of Killzone 3, accompanied by interviews with key Guerrilla designers describing the process involved. As a special bonus, purchasing the official guide gives you access to 3 Unlock Points that you can use to get a head start in unlocking abilities and weapons for your preferred career. The guide even recommends the right time to spend them!

Future Press has made us happy in terms of their high quality guides, and it looks like we’re getting graced with another one.  All of us over here are quite excited to get our hands on both the game and the guide.
