Weekly Poll: Which First Quarter RPG are You Looking Forward to the Most?

January 10, 2011 By Keri Honea 1 Comment

I’ve said repeatedly that I’m screwed in 2011 when it comes to games, but I didn’t realize HOW screwed I was until today. While making my gaming plan for the next few months, I totally didn’t think of Two Worlds II and Dragon Age II AND Dungeon Siege III coming out during the first quarter. I still haven’t played the first Dragon Age yet, and I know I want to do that first and foremost. So right now I’m thinking that Mass Effect 2 may get bumped until after Dragon Age. I think I’m also going to have to wrap up how quickly I play a few games, such as Mass Effect, Red Dead Redemption, and Dragon Age. A few others from 2010 will probably also get bumped to the summer slumps, unless I have 2011 games to catch up on.

Sigh.

Maybe my stack of shame will never be depleted.

As of right now, I have no answer to my own poll. I played a few of these games at E3 last year, and I’m looking forward to those for sure, but as of which one I’m looking forward to the most…I’m just not sure right now. I can say that Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded is not high up on that list, as much as that might shock a few of my friends.

Weekly Poll: How often do you finish your games?

December 5, 2010 By Keri Honea 1 Comment

Final Fantasy XIII box artThis week’s poll topic is one of extreme importance to me as of late, and it’s become even more important since midnight December 1st.

I have a ginormous stack of shame, and I really am ashamed of it. I always mean to finish my games, and if I know I’m not going to finish it, I sell it. So why don’t I finish some games? I can get burned out on a game if it’s exceptionally long or difficult, and at other times, I get distracted by something newer. I always say that when the releases slow down, I’ll pick back up a game from the stack of shame and finish it.

It doesn’t happen very often, unfortunately. [Read more…]

Weekly Poll: Epic Mickey?

November 29, 2010 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

Thanksgiving Gaming PollOkay so the few of you who were able to play games over the Thanksgiving weekend, sucks to your assmar. I packed my handhelds as planned (too bad I forgot Final Fantasy III), but I was only able to take out my PSP once. And when I did, I got the look from the family. I had no idea my undivided attention meant so much to them, but eh, whatever. I’ll finish Ys Seven eventually.

The big topic of this week is Epic Mickey. I have preordered the game (Best Buy is going to give me a bonus 500 points on my Reward Zone account!), but I’m saving the guide for when I finish Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood and Final Fantasy XIII. So yeah, sad to say, I may not get to it by the end of 2010. Blame ACB for being so great I don’t want to hurry up and finish and my making a promise to my friend to finish FFXIII by the end of the year. So while yes, I am a big yes for EM, thanks to the demo at E3, I’m not going to drop everything to play it.

So how many of you are interested in Mickey’s new game? It’s been hyped like crazy all year long, so here’s hoping it’s not an epic flop. I’d love to see a decent third-party game to the Wii. There have been a ton of fantastic first-party games lately, but sad to say, none of them appeal to me, and none of them will until Skyward Sword releases next year. So come onnnnnn, Epic Mickey! Don’t let me down!

Weekly Poll: Do you game over Thanksgiving?

November 22, 2010 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood PollSo wow, no love for Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood among most of you? You’re missing out. No really, you are, especially if you played Assassin’s Creed 2. ACB won’t appeal to those who did not, because, as one of my friends put it, ACB is really more AC2. It’s a continuation of the story, and there is no real tutorial on how to play except for on Ezio’s new tricks, which makes the combat ten times more manageable and fun than AC2.

As for the guide, I don’t want to jinx myself, but this could be the first guide written by Piggyback Interactive that doesn’t make me want to hurl it across the room in frustration. So far I have had zero issues and plenty of help, particularly when it comes to achieving 100% synchronization in those memories with the pesky timers. (Curious what 100% synchronization means? Well, I guess you’re going to have to play the game to find out!)

I’ve had a home alone weekend this past weekend, and I’ve used it to play quite a bit of ACB. I’m trying to do as much as I can now, because as of Wednesday, I won’t be able to play any of it for 4-5 days. We’re heading down to see my family for Thanksgiving this year, and my parents are not gamers in the slightest. They kind of think of games as pointless and a big waste of time. So, I won’t have a PS3 to borrow during naptime or late at night. I am going to try to get some gaming accomplished though in the form of handheld gaming. I’m going to back both my DS and PSP so I can play either Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light or Ys Seven, which I’m so close to finishing.

Are you going to be able to get your gaming fix at all over the Thanksgiving holiday? If so, what are you going to be able to play?

Weekly Poll: Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood

November 15, 2010 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

So we have more Movers than Kinecters in the audience. Is this because more of us have a PS3 than an Xbox? Or is it because of Yuki’s astute (and I believe accurate) observation that the Kinect is most likely going to appeal to the casual, family gamers and the Move will appeal more to the hardcore gamers. (I really hate differentiating between casual and hardcore with such labels, but at this point, I really have no idea how to better separate them.)

I sadly have not used my Move at all. I fired up Star Wars: The Force Unleashed this afternoon, and I really hoped that it would have Move support just because, well, just because. I guess it would have helped if I actually turned on my Move controller when I was playing, but the patch update I had to download immediately seemed to be only for Trophy support. (Yay for Trophies!) [Read more…]
