Weekly Poll: Which Q4 game are you looking forward to the most?

October 4, 2010 By Keri Honea 11 Comments

Hey looky there! A new poll! This one is such a doozy that I don’t even have an answer for it yet.

The polling widget I use only allowed for 10 choices, and it was hard to narrow the extensive release list to just 10. And do you know what is even scarier? Early 2011 is going to be far, far worse than this list.

But back to focusing on the not-so-distant future, which of all of these highly anticipated titles are you looking forward to the most? Which one is the only one that will make your Christmas complete? For the first time since the Wii’s launch, Nintendo has an impressive stack to fill your 2010. I would say that I’m extremely fortunate in that of their line-up, only Epic Mickey beckons me, but I’m quite not fortunate in every other arena. So many of these games showed up at E3, and they all look fantastic.

I might as well just kill off my wallet now just to be merciful.

EDIT: There has been a request for a write-in vote for Call of Duty: Black Ops. If you wish to write in this vote, please do so in the comments. 🙂

Weekly Poll: Are you excited about Halo Reach?

September 13, 2010 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

Poll: How many video games to you play at once?Well thanks to all of your answers last week, I now know that I’m not alone in the multi-game insanity. I’m both comforted and forced to wonder about how short our attention spans as gamers truly are.

As for this week’s poll, I know that I’m talking about Halo far more than I normally would. I’ve never played the games, so all I know about them is that they are sci-fi first-person shooters that suck up many college students’ nights on multiplayer. I was always told that the single-player campaigns are horrible, and multiplayer is where the good stuff is. Considering that I don’t play multiplayer anything and FPSes aren’t my style, you can see why I’ve never picked up a game.

But I cannot deny that the fanboyism and excitement for the final Halo game is rampant. It really reminds me of all the trailers and countdowns and hype for Final Fantasy XIII. Halo fans hated that back then, and we FFXIII are paying for it now. Those who love both franchises are just giddy all over. Lucky dogs.

So all this has led me to ask if my readers or Twitter followers are excited about the newest Halo game coming out on Tuesday. The responses won’t convince me to review the strategy guide, but it will satisfy my odd curiosity.

Weekly Poll: How Many Video Games Do You Play at Once? Redux

September 6, 2010 By Keri Honea 2 Comments

Okay, I know last week was a little nutty with it being the week before a holiday and then I took off due to a family emergency, but I know there are more people out there who read this blog than participated in last week’s poll. As a result, I’m running this poll a little longer.

I finished DeathSpank on Saturday night when I returned to town, so I’m currently only playing one game, Ys Seven, for review purposes, but soon I will have Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep to review at the same time and of course, I’m ready to start some Red Dead Redemption.

So come on, vote even if you only play one game at a time.

Weekly Poll: How many games do you play at once?

August 30, 2010 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

Weekly Poll: Do you use strategy guides? The opinion seems to be evenly split between using guides with certain franchises and only using guides when unfortunately stuck. No need for me to create a poll to find out which guides the latter uses the most often; I’m fairly certain I already know the answer.

As for the last entry, well, I know exactly who that person is (and if you’re a friend of mine on Facebook, you know who it is, too) and I especially expected that response. What would have surprised me would have been additional votes, because surely readers of this site come here because 1) you’re a fan of guides or 2) you like my writing or possibly both!

But let’s move on to the next poll. How many games to you play at once?

I’ve been plagued with this for the last few weeks, especially since I’ve been called upon to review more games. I’ve had to stop playing Transformers: War for Cybertron due to reviewing Arc Rise Fantasia, as miserable as that game made me. I just didn’t have enough hours in the day to do both. So MattG stepped in and said that I should always make time for a game for myself and a review game, unless the two happen to coincide. Right now my review assignment is Ys Seven, and even though I really enjoy the game, it’s definitely not a “me” game I would choose.

That “me” game has been DeathSpank, which has been more fun than I thought possible. And another friend has implored me to pick back up his Castlevania challenge. So fine. I’ll play a review game, a challenge game, and a game for me. And once DeathSpank is done (possibly by tonight), I’ll be switching back and forth between Red Dead Redemption and Transformers: War for Cybertron.

Is anyone else as insane as I am or am I alone? Or do I pale in comparison to some of you?

Poll: Do you use strategy guides?

August 23, 2010 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

Poll Results: Do you buy collector's edition strategy guidesSo it seems like the majority of you (who answered the poll, anyway) only purchase Collector’s Editions of guides if they like a particular franchise. Makes perfect sense to me, mostly due to the fact that this is what I do, especially now since I buy so many guides for reviewing purposes.

However, this poll sparked an idea for this week’s poll due to comments on my Facebook page. One of my avid gamer friends commented that she would never buy guides because that’s cheating. I’ve never considered using guides cheating, but I guess that is no surprise as I have them and well, write about them. However, I actually have a reason for not considering it cheating other than these facts.

I can guarantee that everyone, no matter your gaming expertise, has gotten frustratingly stuck in a game. This is one reason why people abruptly quit a game mid-stride. I don’t find failing at one spot over and over again fun, so I look up assistance. If I don’t have a guide, I’ll try to find a suggestion online. I’ve paid way too much money for a game just to have it frustrate me into quitting. And I admit, my patience threshold is practically non-existent (hence why I hate platformers so, so much), so it’s almost like guides were created for someone like me in mind.

And I like art books. I really, really like art books. Guides are like giant video game artbooks as well. Double score for me.

So no matter your reasons, please vote! Next week’s poll: Am I wasting my time and energy writing about strategy guides?
