Majora’s Mask 3D CE and Strategy Guide CE Bundle

January 8, 2015 By Keri Honea 1 Comment

108784bNintendo recently announced a limited edition bundle of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D that includes a cute little statue of Skull Kid. That’s already a nice little deal in of itself.

But if you peruse a little further, Prima Games also has a Collector’s Edition for their upcoming strategy guide for the game that brilliantly matches their hardcover CEs for all of their past Zelda games. Most importantly, it matches the covers of all of the CEs from their massive Legend of Zelda bundle that they sold last year.

Buying each of these goodies separately will run about $85 before tax, so Gamestop has come up with a neat little bundle to tie them both together for a shade cheaper.

B108784AbFor $84.98 (I never said it was a ton cheaper), you can preorder the complete CE bundle now of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D that will contain both the game CE and the beautiful CE strategy guide.

Yes, I’ve already preordered my bundle. I know I probably could have gotten one from Prima as a review copy, but in this case, I just could not risk it. I have zero regrets.

In other news, Chris and I have pretty much declared war on one another for who will be reviewing the strategy guide for The Legend of Zelda Wii U. We might record our brawl for posterity.

Prima Games Unveils Inquisitor Edition of Dragon Age Inquisition Strategy Guide

August 29, 2014 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

If there’s one thing the strategy guide industry often does well, it’s their collector’s edition strategy guides. I’ve kept strategy guides for games I don’t even have anymore simply because they are collector’s edition guides and are amazing in so many ways. The collector’s edition strategy guide for Dragon Age Inquisition looks to be just as amazing.

DAI-BoxShot_nopenThey call it the Inquisitor’s Edition, and it includes a hefty bit more than the gorgeous hardcover book you see on the left. The second box on the right includes four leather bookmarks stamped with different faction emblems and a stylized Inquisition pen.

It also includes 3 bonus in-game items thanks to BioWare.

Not going to lie; this is pretty pricey. Its retail price is $119.00, which is a lot for one strategy guide, but at least Amazon currently has a preorder sale going on, allowing you lock it in for $81.88.

Of course I’m interested, but I’m also swayed by shiny things, especially shiny strategy guides. Are you interested?

Online Strategy Guide for Road Not Taken

August 22, 2014 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

Road Not Taken Recipe Guide by VentureBeatThe Road Not Taken is a little puzzle game that incorporates some sim-building along with super frustrating puzzles while you strive to save slave children from freezing to death. I’m serious, this town institutes slave labor with the town children, forcing them to pick berries in the middle of blizzards, and well, every year everyone is surprised that some children go missing.

Your job as the ranger is to find all of the children while navigating odd puzzles in the forest. Each time you play, the puzzles are randomly generated, so there is absolutely no learning from your mistakes other than not to screw up the next time. It’s just as easy to give up in frustration as it is to say, “I’ll get further next time…”

VentureBeat has compiled an online strategy guide for the game of sorts. While they haven’t mapped out every single solution for every possible puzzle, they have listed out every single recipe you can create in the game. Sometimes, this is really all you need, the know-how for what things will either destroy obstacles or replenish your energy.

I’m sure someone out there with more time than anyone ever will compile a real strategy guide, but by then, will anyone be around to care about it? We’ll all have another puzzle game we’re beating our heads over.

Extra Life 2014

August 14, 2014 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

ControllerwithEffectsYep, I’m back to annoy you all once again to support me as I try to raise money for this year’s Extra Life charity marathon.

This year, I’ll be traveling to Iowa so I can physically game in the same room with my teammates, including two writers at SGR! We will be livestreaming the event, so you can watch all of us fail at games and get really punchy at 2 a.m. This year I’m also packing up my own Xbox 360 to take with me so I can play my own stack of shame without borrowing others’ consoles, but I will beg one of them to let me borrow a PC so I can play my biggest stack of shame I have: King’s Quest VI.

Chris and I will also be getting Zelda-themed tattoos during the marathon if we raise enough money! If I raise half of my goal, then I will definitely be in for new ink.

And for my lovely SGR fans, I will also pick one of you to win a strategy guide of your choice! Here’s how you can win:

  • Donate at least $25. Every $25 gives you one entry into the contest.
  • In your donation, specifically state that you are a SGR reader.

Once the marathon is over, I’ll draw one random donor and that person will get to pick a strategy guide from a list. They will be new strategy guides, I promise, something that will release around that time, such as a guide for Assassin’s Creed Unity. Last year I gave a collector’s edition strategy guide for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. If I raise my goal of $500, then I will definitely make sure the guide is a CE!

My donation bar is to the right with a handy button that will take you directly to my donation page. Thank you all in advance!

Prima Games Posts Free, “Unofficial” Bravely Default Strategy Guide

February 7, 2014 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

logo_bravely-default_banner_retinaBravely Default, Square Enix’s newest RPG that releases today for the 3DS, has a strategy guide in Japan, but for whatever reason, an official strategy guide isn’t going to make its way to the West. I was honestly bummed about it, but it wasn’t going to stop me from getting the game. I lost a whole weekend to the demo; of course I’m going to get the game no matter what.

Prima Games apparently heard my pleas (no one else’s, just mine, please note), so they posted an “unofficial” Bravely Default strategy guide on their website. And yes, it is free.

Get out your tablets and bookmark this one for future use. You know it’s going to be better than anything GameFAQs has to offer.

Right now, only the Prologue walkthrough is up, but Prima Games has promised to update the guide. Hopefully maps will get included as well, to give this free strategy guide a bit more of an edge over any other freebie guides on the net.

I already have my iPad bookmarked. I just need the game.
