Presenting The Big Pixels

September 30, 2010 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

Earlier this week I discussed my departure from Kombo, and now I’m back to announce a new project, The Big Pixels, formed by a team of Kombo refugees who still wanted to work together. I am deeply honored to be a part of this select group. This is a team of the best writers from Kombo, and everyone is so dedicated to this new venture. We aren’t doing this for money or fame or anything like that; it’s all for fun. And that, I think, will make us all the more successful.

So check us out and let us know what you think.

And here is a comic from one our writers, Pete Davison, that nicely commemorates our launch.

Farewell Kombo, and Hello Future

September 27, 2010 By Keri Honea 1 Comment

Kombo logoI deeply apologize for the lack of posting last week. Gaming journalism-wise, last week blew up in my face starting at 7:48 p.m. on Monday night.

I have worked for Kombo.com since 2005. I started out as a copy editor, and over the years, I have evolved into a features writer, a game reviewer, and content manager. When I went to E3 this year, I finally got to meet my Kombo family and I realized quickly that I would remain friends for life with many of them. It’s rare you get that feeling from online colleagues that you’ve never met. Unfortunately, the good times couldn’t last forever. One of the owners decided to take the site into a new direction, and it was one that I, the editor-in-chief, news director, and reviews directors could not get behind. I resigned on Monday night with the EIC and news director, and then others followed the next day.

Even more sadly, it looks like Kombo will not survive the implosion. I’ve heard that there has been talk that the site will continue on, and I honestly hope it does. It’s been around for far too long (in online gaming journalism years), and its death would be sad. [Read more…]

BradyGames Behind-the-Scenes of Halo Reach Strategy Guide

September 14, 2010 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

I’m well aware that yet again I’m discussing Halo Reach, but this discovery was so cool, how could I NOT share it on a site dedicated to strategy guides?

BradyGames submitted a really well done video on their Facebook fan page that shows the process the company went through in writing and publishing the Halo Reach Strategy Guide. It’s a must see for guide lovers, whether you like Halo Reach or not. [Read more…]

Strategy Guide Releases this Week: RUSE and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

September 7, 2010 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

RUSE Strategy Guide by Prima Games Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Strategy Guide by BradyGames

It’s not that often we’re treated to two guides from two different publishers! Prima Games released their strategy guide for RUSE and BradyGames also released their highly anticipated strategy guide for Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. The RUSE guide is only online at this time, most likely because it was never “officially” confirmed that the game was coming to North America at all. Hopefully they will publish a physical copy of the guide too, but that will most likely only happen if 1) the game is successful and 2) if there is a demand for it.

The strategy guide for KHBBS arrived in my mailbox today, and it looks as sharp as every other KH guide (aside from KH2). I was disappointed to not see Dan Birlew‘s name on the cover, but I’ve liked other guides of Casey Loe so I doubt I have much to worry about. Now all I need is my review copy of the game and I’ll be all set!

It’s nice to be loved!

August 22, 2010 By Keri Honea 1 Comment

I decided to check and see if FuturePress had ever made its way on to Facebook this morning, and not only did I find out that they had, but I found out that they love me.

Future-Press Fan Page

It’s always wonderful to be appreciated, especially by a publisher, but between this and Mr. Giacomotto’s words of praise on my Prima Games Interview, I’m downright blushing with shock. I never expected to be called out on a Facebook Fan Page. I’m incredibly honored, and I’m even more pumped for this site.

Thank you everyone for your fantastic support!
