A Strategy Guide for your Strategy Guides
The Uncharted 4 Collector’s Edition strategy guide has arrived! We got a glimpse of it when Prima Games first announced it, but is there more to the collector’s edition than their announcement claimed? Here is what I found when I opened this pretty, pretty thing. And yes, it is a gorgeous strategy guide, make no mistake about that.

The PlayStation Gear Store has announced a Collector’s Edition for the Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End strategy guide, which looks absolutely stunning.
I had a feeling Prima Games was crafting together a Collector’s Edition for the strategy guide, since they did put together a nice one for Uncharted 3. However, unlike that CE, this one doesn’t include as many tangible perks.
In addition to the rather gorgeous hardcover, the Collector’s Edition will also include a pirate sigil coin in silver. The PlayStation Gear Store also lists the following will be included, which all also should be part of the paperback strategy guide as well:
For a price tag of $40, you have to offer a bit more than what is in the paperback guide, and a silver coin and hardcover just aren’t enough. Are the maps special fold-out maps that only appear in the CE? Is the coin real silver? Is it solid silver? Are the maps cloth maps? Is there special art in the back that’s only in the CE?
We need a bit more information before boarding the hype train just yet. Don’t get me wrong; the cover is beautiful, and the coin looks pretty darn cool too, but not $40 beautiful and cool.

More often then not as of late, companies publish two versions of strategy guides, a traditional paperback guide and a collector’s edition. In the case of publishers Piggyback and Future Press, they only publish a hardcover collector’s edition. But when there are two versions, what are the differences? Is there a difference aside from the hardcovers?
Well, sometimes, no. However, sometimes collector’s editions have extras that make the extra cash worth it other than looking pretty on your shelf. I pulled a number of samples I had of both types of strategy guides to show the various differences between them and what sort of extras a collector’s edition may entail. Simply put, not every collector’s edition may be worth it to you, but here are some examples of what you can find in these collector’s editions strategy guides.
I’ve been waiting to play Xenoblade Chronicles X once I received the strategy guide, which showed up late yesterday. And it happened to be a Collector’s Edition strategy guide for the game! Hooray! I love these big beautiful things.
So is the big beautiful book worth the extra price over the paperback guide? Well for starters, this is the only one available. Secondly, here is what you can expect with the strategy guide.
Brief warning: I get rather overwhelmed by the amount of information in the book as I realize this game is bigger than anything I’ve ever played.
Halo 5: Guardians released this past Tuesday and so did the strategy guide! Like yesterday’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate strategy guide, there are two versions of the Halo 5 strategy guide—a standard paperback and a hardcover collector’s edition. So why spend the extra dough on the CE for this one, especially since it’s a multiplayer-heavy game? We comb through it and find out.
