Splatoon 2 Strategy Guide Review

September 12, 2017 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

Splatoon 2 has been out for awhile, but sad little me hasn’t touched my Switch since I bought it. That is pathetic, I admit. But now that I’ve gotten my hands on it, I really like the little thing, especially Splatoon 2. It’s a great little shooter that is 100% Nintendo. No real deaths, no blood, and crazy puzzles to solve to get through levels and defeat bosses. Naturally, since it’s a Nintendo product, there is a strategy guide to accompany it. It’s a little book, but it packs a bunch of information. The question is, though, how solid are the strategies for traversing the levels and defeating the zany bosses?

Let’s just say I enjoyed putting this book to test for it’s tips and collectibles. It helps the game, even with its limitations, is rather fun to play.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind Strategy Guide Review

August 24, 2017 By Chris Nitz 3 Comments

I finally have my Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind strategy guide review completed! I gotta say that this is one of the better MMO strategy guides that I have had the pleasure of reviewing. I mean, it wasn’t just maps and basic info. This one actually contained some useful tips and got me through the Morrowind expansion. Pretty cool. I only wish I had a guide to help me plow through all of ESO, but I don’t so I guess I’ll have to rely on the internet for that.

Bonus points to me for reviewing this while the solar eclipse was happening…and a thunderstorm was rolling through. That timing game…so good.

Gaming Diary: Remember that Pillars of Eternity Strategy Guide?

August 21, 2017 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

Pillars of Eternity strategy guide

I reviewed Pillars of Eternity when it originally released for PC in 2015. I hailed it as a fantastic return to the cRPG genre, and an overall wonderful RPG. My boss argued with me when it came time for GOTY awards. I demanded PoE be the RPG of the Year. It’s releasing for PS4 at the end of this month, and guess who is reviewing it? THIS GAL.

Not sure if I announced here that I’ve returned to video games writing, but I have. I’m back with PlayStation Lifestyle, but this time in a more editorial capacity. I’m their copy editor and SEO wizard, which is how I started at Kombo all those years ago. I happen to also be an occasional reviewer and feature writer. It’s so nice to be back, and even nicer to be back in a slightly less stressful capacity. Plus, I really love editing. That helps so much.

I’m excited to come back to PoE and review it for a couple of reasons. For starters, I’d like to actually finish the game this time. Secondly, I’m stoked I can use my Pillars of Eternity strategy guide that Prima Games sent me awhile back! I always meant to use it to review the PC game, but you know how that goes. This is how the stack of shame comes to life when you review games and/or have any sort of busy life.

So far, the book has been a fantastic companion. I used it for character creation as well as double-checking some of my route decisions. This time, I don’t want to miss picking up a character before tackling the stronghold. I did that when I first played on PC, and honestly, I should award myself a medal for defeating that first boss with only three people in my party. Yes, it took multiple tries. I nearly rage quit. I paused so much to dole out orders to my team. Imagine how stupid I felt (and yet proud) when I learned there are two other party members to recruit BEFORE tackling the stronghold boss. It’s amazing I’m allowed to play video games at all, actually.

Mass Effect Andromeda Strategy Guide Review

May 16, 2017 By Keri Honea 5 Comments

I’ve said repeatedly that the game Mass Effect Andromeda did not win me over, but how was the Mass Effect Andromeda strategy guide? Prima Games certainly brought their A-game to the Andromeda galaxy, but it wasn’t completely perfect either. The guide is incredibly well put together, it’s easy to find what you’re looking for, and the strategies (and bonus tips for extra narratives) are spot on.

However, the book is missing some key points that would make this great guide excellent. Find out why in our video review below.

Be sure to also check out our unboxing video of the Mass Effect Andromeda Pathfinder Edition Strategy Guide as well!

Halo Wars 2 Strategy Guide Review

April 19, 2017 By Blake Grundman Leave a Comment

Oh, Halo Wars… how I love thee. Sure, many genre purists scoffed because it was a console RTS set in the Halo universe; but those jerks are dead wrong. The original was a well constructed RTS from the folks at Ensemble Studio that didn’t get near enough credit for all that it did well. It was easily the best strategy game of the console generation. It also didn’t hurt that the game fleshed out the extended universe of Halo by leaps and bounds.

So when Halo Wars 2 made the jump to cross-platform, supporting cross-buy on both PC AND Xbox One, you can bet that Microsoft instantly had my attention. The next installment more than lived up to the promise of the original. Even crazier yet, it is damn near overshadowed by its fantastic strategy guide!

Curious how that is possible? Check out my video review below to find out!
