Dead Rising 2 Strategy Guide Review

Dead Rising 2 Strategy Guideby Eric Frederiksen

Dead Rising 2 thrives on secrets, hidden items, and insider knowledge. A good guide would be a godsend for anyone struggling with the undead hordes of Fortune City. Does Prima’s guide have what it takes to keep motocross star Chuck Greene and his daughter Katey alive?

If all Dead Rising 2 needed was a simple walkthrough, it would be easy to take care of it here, in one sentence: Follow the arrows, carry lots of healing items, and don’t run out of time. But that’s not nearly all there is to surviving and thriving in Fortune City, and thankfully Prima’s guide is well-equipped to help.

The guide is rife with all manner of tables and appendices. List of weapons and their locations, what weapon combinations are most effective, and how to make different mixed drinks are just the start. There’s plenty more and Prima covers just about everything, including tables and maps specifically to serve a few of the more difficult achievements of the game (such as defacing all the Zombrex posters). The Collector’s Edition Comparison: Dead Rising 2 Strategy Guide by Stephen Stratton

Dead Rising 2 Collector's Edition Strategy Guide by Stephen Stratton

Prima Games released their strategy guide for Dead Rising 2 on Tuesday, and, as they are oft wont to do, a Collector’s Edition. So, what’s the difference other than the fact one costs about $10 more and has a hard cover? Why should you spend that extra $10 on this guide instead of using it toward another game? [Read more…]

Strategy Guide Cover of the Week: Alan Wake

September 16, 2010 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

Alan Wake Strategy GuideI must have cracked now, right? How can I choose a guide cover that has so little color for the Strategy Guide Cover of the Week? In this case, quite easily. The cover of the Alan Wake Strategy Guide–excuse me–Survival Guide says pretty much all you need to know about the game. It’s dark, it’s not inviting, and the fact that Alan seems to be holding a flashlight and not a gun makes it all the more scary. The mist and shadows coming from his last name further intensifies the feeling. [Read more…]

Strategy Guide Releases this Week: RUSE and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

September 7, 2010 By Keri Honea Leave a Comment

RUSE Strategy Guide by Prima Games Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Strategy Guide by BradyGames

It’s not that often we’re treated to two guides from two different publishers! Prima Games released their strategy guide for RUSE and BradyGames also released their highly anticipated strategy guide for Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. The RUSE guide is only online at this time, most likely because it was never “officially” confirmed that the game was coming to North America at all. Hopefully they will publish a physical copy of the guide too, but that will most likely only happen if 1) the game is successful and 2) if there is a demand for it.

The strategy guide for KHBBS arrived in my mailbox today, and it looks as sharp as every other KH guide (aside from KH2). I was disappointed to not see Dan Birlew‘s name on the cover, but I’ve liked other guides of Casey Loe so I doubt I have much to worry about. Now all I need is my review copy of the game and I’ll be all set!

Wednesday’s Strategy Guide Cover of the Week: Assassin’s Creed 2

August 25, 2010 By Keri Honea 2 Comments

Assassin's Creed 2 Cover of the WeekIt may seem hypocritical of me to pick the cover of Assassin’s Creed 2 as the cover of the week this week since I really didn’t care for the guide itself, but its cover is outstanding. It captures Ezio’s signature stance that the boxart exemplified, but it’s more vibrant and the larger cover makes it easier to catch all of Ezio’s little details: every fold of his armor, his arrogant smirk, and just how heavily armed he really is.

It’s hard to see from the scan, but the white background is lined with traces from the Animus synchronization (or desynchronization), effectively bringing both Desmond’s past life as Ezio and his present life chained to the Animus to the forefront. To further enhance the synch or desynch of the Animus, the background people have been blurred out and then colored blood red.

So many aspects of the game have all been brought together with this cover, making it one of my favorites.
